What is Safescape® ?
Safescape® is a system, which breaks toughened glass windows,
instantly and without the need for hammers, at the push of
a button. An emergency exit is created quickly and efficiently.
It can easily be fitted to existing windows.
When the toughened glass is broken using Safescape®, the
window frosts into tiny pieces with minimum risk of injury
from the glass. Film can be put over the window to keep the
pieces of glass together so that the window can be pushed
out with bare hands. |

How it works
| 1. The
Safescape® System unit is fixed to the window using
aerospace technology strength 3M tape. |
|
| 2. In an
emergency, the passenger breaks the glass cover of the
unit. |
|
| 3. The
passenger presses the button. |
|
| 4. The
window breaks and the passenger pushes the window out
in one movement. |

How does Safescape® Work?
To understand Safescape®, the properties of toughened
glass must also be understood.
Toughened glass (or tempered glass) has been heat treated
to make it stronger than normal glass. This process means
that if a shock is delivered to the glass, such as a notch
made with a pointed instrument, the glass shatters into small
cubes. This kind of glass is used in the side windows of cars,
on all buses and trains in the UK and in many buildings.
Due to its tough nature, the glass is very difficult to break
unless a pointed instrument is available - even then, it requires
strength and determination to break the glass. That is why
Safescape® was developed.
The process of hitting the glass, with enough force and in
the right position to smash the glass, is carried out by pressing
a button. The button and device are housed in a strong, metal
box. |
